Research Day 2010 - How to Submit

The Research Day event will include:

  • a poster session and competition
  • a demo session and competition
  • the publication of a book of student resumes
  • the publication of a book of summaries of faculty expertise

All graduate students are encouraged to participate by:

  • submitting and presenting a poster AND/OR
  • submitting and presenting a demo AND/OR
  • submitting a resume for inclusion in the resume book

Poster Submission: (Due Friday, 4/2 at midnight)

You can use this poster template. It consists of a single powerpoint slide, formatted to print to 24 in. x 32 in. It contains some text boxes, logos, and a general outline for the posters. You don't need to follow the outline exactly; it is meant only to give guidance.

  1. Prepare an interesting, informative, nicely designed, grammatically correct poster with fonts that are readable from a distance of 3-6 feet. Please don'tmake a dark background on the poster or on sections of the poster, as that will complicate printing.
  2. Ask your advisor to review and approve your abstract.
  3. Name your poster file: Poster_YourSurname.ppt (insert *your* surname)
  4. Email your file to researchday@cs.uga.edu, with the subject line: Poster Your_Surname .
  5. Prepare and practice a brief "poster talk".

Poster Abstract Submission: (Due Monday, 4/5 at noon)

  1. Create a plain text abstract file containing:
    • Your name
    • Title of your poster
    • 150 word abstract.
  2. Ask your advisor to review and approve your abstract.
  3. Name your abstract file: PosterAbstract_YourSurname.txt (insert *your* surname)
  4. Send an email to researchday@cs.uga.edu, with the subject line "Poster Abstract YourSurname", and include your abstract in the body of the message.

Demo Submission: (Due Monday, 4/5 at noon)

  1. Create a plain text abstract file containing:
    • Your name
    • Title of your Demo
    • 150 word abstract.
  2. Ask your advisor to review and approve your abstract.
  3. Name your abstract file: DemoAbstract_YourSurname.txt (insert *your* surname)
  4. Send an email to researchday@cs.uga.edu, with the subject line "Demo Abstract YourSurname", and include your abstract in the body of the message.

Resume Submission: (Due Monday, 4/5 at noon)

  1. Prepare a factually accurate, appealing, grammatically correct resume.
  2. Please limit your resume to 1 or 2 pages. You can see last year's resume book for guidance.
  3. Ask you advisor to review and approve your resume.
  4. Create a pdf file containing your pre-approved 1 or 2 page resume.
  5. Name your resume file: Resume_YourSurname.pdf (insert *your* surname)
  6. Send an email to researchday@cs.uga.edu, with the subject line "Resume YourSurname", and attach the pdf file.
