Description of the Applied Data Science Certificate Program:
The Computer Science Department's certificate program in Applied Data Science is useful for students in a variety of mathematical, scientific, and engineering fields. The certificate develops expertise in the collection, storage, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of data. Efficient processing of large quantities of data via frameworks like Hadoop and Spark are also explored. The need for expertise in data analytics and data science has grown tremendously in recent years. The certificate program is intended to help meet these needs.
Eligibility for the Applied Data Science Certificate Program:
Admission is open across the university, but is targeted to the mathematical, scientific (including biological, physical, and social sciences), and engineering fields. The minimal prerequisite for courses in the certificate program is MATH 1113 or MATH 1113E, Precalculus.
Course requirements for the Certificate in Applied Data Science:
The undergraduate certificate program in Applied Data Science requires 18-20 hours of coursework, with 12 hours of core courses and 6-8 hours of electives. All courses used to satisfy the certificate requirement must be passed with a grade of "C" or better.
